The Way of the Horse: How to See the World Through His Eyes (Howell Equestrian Library)

Buy this one first!
Of all the books that I have read (a lot) since I got back into riding, this is the one that was most worth the money. The explanations of horse behavior, the reasons and what the response of the human should be are written in such a special way that isn't clinical or condescending to the reader. The beautiful photos are an added bonus to an already worthwhile book.

Absolutley wounderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I reccomend this book to every one, it has stunning pictures, and correct information. I think this book was worth every penny and it answerd questions many horse people have. I have reccomended this book to all my horsey friends and they have all reccomended it to thier friends, with all of them coming back with the same answer, 'WHAT A GREAT BOOK!!! ' You have to have this book if you're a horseman!!

Whispers of Death

awesome book
This is a very touching book. I highly recommend it for it isso educational for all to learn what wars are all about. Some werevery lucky to return home to their families and some weren'tso lucky.I can't even imagine experiencing anything like this for it was such an ordeal for Forrest to go through. He must have had so much faith in God and prayed that he would not be executed so that he could return home to his family. To this day Forrest has nightmares about his ordeal being shot down and living like he did in prison for I'am his daughter. He has lived in agony with his injuries from being shot down but he continues on going with what life has to offer. Please read this book and believe me when I tell you that once you start reading it that you won't be able to put it down until you finish it.It will make you think.

a soul grasping experience
CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN IT, AN AWESOME BOOK!! I STILL CAN'T BE BELIEVE THAT GRANDFATHER ACTUALLY ENDURED ALL THAT!!!

Wild Conquest

I like it, I love it
This book is great. The story is great, and the characters are awesome. Pleasance is a loyal, unselfish woman who rejects a proud, stubborn Tearlach so that her selfish younger sister gets him as a catch. As a result, Tearlack even though is attracted to her is angered and his distrust of women gets stronger. Her sister ask her to steal letters and a gift from Tearlach's room yet gets caught. She then, gets sentenced to be an indentured servant to Tearlach. Through the year, she learns she is capable of being a strong woman who doesnt' have to back down like she did with her unloyal family. Tearlach learns that she isn't who he thought she was, a snobbish selfish woman. They found strong passion with each other as well as a love that was well developed.

A worthy buy. Another great book written by Hannah Howell

A Story Worth Returning To
I believe I bought this book about 4 or so years ago. Unfortunately I can't remember where but I'm glad I did. I've read it and reread it many times. It's a great little story. Alternately cute, sensual, and poignant. The main characters; Tearlach O'Duine a young and handsome self-made Scotsman, Pleasance Dunstan his unlikely well-bred Colonial indentured servant turn lover, and Moira, Tearlach's insightful prepubescent sister are believable and very likable. The story grabs you and moves you to read on. Despite the number of times I've read it I refuse to give the book away. It's a story worth returning to.

Adventures of a 19th-Century Medic: The Life and Times of Dr. William Hunt, 1810-1882
Published in Paperback by Providence House Publishers (May, 1998)
Author: Alice Hunt Lynn Howell

Insight into Civil War Medicine
His medical education at Transylvania, experiences in the Cherokee removal to Oklahoma, the Mexican War, the Gold Rush and the Civil War make this biography of William Hunt, M.D. most interesting reading. Having just heard Alice Hunt Lynn Howell speak and having read the book, I can recommend it to anyone interested in Civil War era medicine or the divided loyalties in East Tennessee. Some say sentiments in East Tennessee were the most equally divided of any section in the nation. Dr. Hunt's imprisonment in Tuscaloosa when he was a suspected conspirator in the Lincoln-approved Bridge Burning incident in 1861 was a highlight. Since he was a brother-in-law of "Parson" Brownlow, editor of the Knoxville Whig and post-war Governor of Tennessee, who mentioned him often, and since he was quite literate himself, Dr. Hunt left a paper trail that enabled his descendant to write this highly recommended book. The well-chosen illustrations, references and comprehensive index make it a useful tool for the professional historian.

Wonderful!
This is a great book! Using it enables one to discover places that they never knew existed. The descriptions are great and the directions are very explicit and correct. We have taken 3 of the tours so far and had wonderful times! I am wondering if there is something similar for Northern California.

The Beachcomber's Handbook of Seafood Cookery
Published in Hardcover by John F Blair Pub (October, 1989)
Authors: Hugh Zachary and Claude Howell
Average review score:

The Beachcomber's Handbook of Seafood Cookery
An unusual approach to a cookbook. Tells you how to catch it or buy it, clean it and cook it with humorous stories to bring it alive (the book not the seafood!) The book is delightfully illustrated by renowned artist Claude Howell giving this cookbook a different look. This cookbook is a must for your kitchen whether you are the cook or not. It is such a shame that it is no longer in print. It was my favorite gift for every newlywed couple I knew.
